Hearthstone Keychains

This is a pretty sweet and easy project for a snowy afternoon!

You'll need black, blue, and white craft paint, a paper clip, and some air dry clay. I used a clay recipe out of a Kid Concoctions book I had when I was little. You'll need a cup of cornstarch, 2 cups of baking soda, and 1 and 1/4 cup of cold water. Basically, you combine all the ingredients and set them over medium heat for five minutes. It should thicken and turn to dough. It's a good dough because it's easy and safe for small children, but when it dries, it sometimes cracks. You could use it for this, but it's not my first choice. If you let them dry flat, only the backs will crack, and you can just fill the crack in with white glue.

Grab a piece of clay that is the size of the stone you want to make. Remember- the bigger the stone, the longer it takes to dry. Add a little paint to the dough and kneed it in.

The colors will dry a little bit lighter than this.

Flatten out your clay to make the stone. Put the paper clip in the top for the key chain.

I used a tooth pick to outline how I wanted the swirl.

Roll the blue dough into a snake and create a swirl on top.

I let my stones dry for two days. I used a water based satin varnish to finish them. Apart from the drying time, this project takes maybe twenty minutes. I really like how they turned out! :3

Hearthstone Cookies

Find your way home with these Hearthstone sugar cookies!

My ex-boyfriend and I are quite close friends. With Valentine's Day coming up, I thought it'd be rude to ignore the day, but we're not together anymore, so it's not meant to be a big deal. He and I are hanging out this weekend, so I decided I'd make him some "Hearthstone" cookies. Here's my test-run of the recipe- I'll make his actual batch on Saturday. I'm pretty sure he doesn't read my blog (I'd be shocked if he does!) so I thought it'd be okay if I went ahead and posted this.

The original recipe is from The Food Network. It can be found here.
Ingredients:
2 and 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup softened butter
1 and 1/2 cups white sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 to 2 tablespoons milk
Blue Sugar Sprinkles

Combine flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set it aside for later.

In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar. Add the egg and vanilla.

Blend in the dry ingredients. Add milk so the dough is soft, but not sticky or wet.

Now comes the experimentation part. It took me a couple times to get the sizing right for the cookies. I accidentally made a couple of huge cookies. And the swirls on some of them look like squirrels made them.

Basically, I scooped the dough on the cookie sheet and mushed it into a circle with my hand. Then, I used my stencil-template-thingy to make the swirl with sprinkles.

Bake them for 8 to 10 minutes at 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

They turned out pretty good! A lot better than the Spock cookies! XD

For The Horde!!!

I decided I need a new school bag. So I thought I'd get something to show of my political faction in World of Warcraft.

(Hehe- I look super cheesy. It was really cold outside and I had no desire to retake the shot. XD)

I started with a bag I got at a thrift store for a dollar. My original plan was to sew a Pac-Man design that I cross-stitched on it, but the Pac-Man design was too wide.

I gathered some material, found a template, and sketched up a design that I liked.

I got my template from here. Thanks, disposableusername!

I painted the background first, then I used heat-n-bond to attach the insignia.

The most difficult part was sewing it to the front of the bag. My machine handled it well, but I was worried it was going to be too thick.

I am super happy with how this turned out. Now I'll be going to school in style. XD *Happy Dance*
